Dedicated to racers everywhere, the trials and tribulations of going racing and trying to earn enough money to keep going racing

Like the new title? I'm trying alliteration. Corny but true!
Only there aren't many thoughts today. I'm watching a bodyshell on eBay that could be a good replacement for my current race shell - RWA, caged already etc etc. A possibility instead of repairing my race car.
Foggy morning at the moment, think I'll work from home today. That's the advantage of running your own company
I use on on-line Exchange server for emails and Office Live Workspaces as document storage so I can actually work from anywhere. Handy...
Collect my SCCR next week - pretty important that I do because I've just sold my standard "race" box! At the moment I've got a bodyshell that needs repair, two engines in pieces and no gearbox - great way to go racing!
It's quiet at work at the moment too. I don't think it's the "credit crunch" it's just a quiet period every October. Not too bad because I need the time to get that red 1275 A-H Sprite I bought recently finished and up for sale. I need to change the springs so it stands level, sort out the driver's door window and a tiny bit of bodywork. It's even MOT-ed so it should be a good buy for someone.
Circuit training tonight - I'm really looking forward to it but not the state I'll be in on Friday and Saturday!
Need to change the title I think, I only seem to Blog in the morning so there's no other type of Musing for me
Interesting that the banks are going to have £50 billion pumped into them when they have a financial drisis, but when we have a financial crisis they call in the overdraft. One rule for some, one for the rest methinks.
Helped Alex with his www.alextyler.co.uk web site last night. We've got a bit of work to do on it, but it's coming on really well for an 11-year-old.
Good day yesterday on the SKID CAR, nice group of people. Also looks like we have another ambulance training company on board as well after a successful meeting.
It's the FISC race at Dijon this weekend. Really wish I was there, I adore the circuit and the surroundings. James from TRS harnesses was racing at the track last weekend in a sports proto race - looks a nice championship, I'd love to get involved in sports racers again. If only - aah, big sigh.
We won the quiz last night - makes a change after a couple of seconds.
Got to go, may blog later today but I've been busy already this morning.
Y-a-w-n.....missed a few days, but it's been a busy weekend so we'll try to catch up.
Snetterton was a wash-out. What a pain...it started raining around midnight and hadn't stopped by 1:00pm when they called the 4-hour race off. The morning races had long been cancelled, it was inevitable and just a pity that the MGCC took so long to decide. So a 400 mile round-trip just for a Noggin'n'Natter...bum, could have done with the day at home.
Quite funny to watch some things though. As the water climbed up, like the flood scene in Winnie-the-Pooh, towards my car, kids on bicycles created bow waves through the water. One car drove through with the water lapping at its bodywork, several pits were totally flooded and quite frankly it was clear there was going to be no racing. Shame.
Teaching on the SKID CAR today, group of 3 coming down from the Forest of Dean. Family group, should be a good day. I like these, they're quite an eye-opener for the drivers.
Then it's back to the shopping cart grindstone...nearly there, final push and we should be ab;e to go live for the weekend. Woo-hoo!
Oh, off to Mallory on Sunday...hope my jinx doesn't strike again.
Must remember to go and see Waz Pablo today, deliver him those Uvex racing boots that have just arrived. I'm well impressed with those, they're so comfortable and soft. I like the black ones, they're quite a "Classic" style, reckon they'll be a winner. Perhaps I'll get to see his Puma, he reckons it's a good car and quicker than his 205.
Off to Snetterton this weekend. Not racing, I'm generally getting in the way of the drivers in the team Monty Zoomers Revenge in the MGCC's 4 Hour Relay Race. Of course I did the race myself last year, but the car's in pieces so it isn't to be. The team is Andy McGee and Neville Laskey in Andy's Midget, David and Alex Smith in David's Midget and Neil Turner with Mike Heath in David's Montego. Think it'll be hard work, given that by 10 minutes into the race last year we were on the 3rd car!
Strangely the weakest link may be the Monty, it's not run much. David's car did 12 laps of the Ring last week, Andy's is regularly competing, so they are race fit.
Last year with the family we stayed in the local Travel Inn - very comfortable night, good food etc. This year I'm sleeping in the Pug. How the mighty are fallen
Actually it's convenient, besides saving a load of money towards my SCCR! Will keep the blog posted how it all goes, but of course don't expect a posting on Sunday morning!
Must remember to get the Peugeot radio recoded today. I had an exciting time with that last week...
A few weeks back we lost the blipper key. Our car insurance covers a new key but I didn't get "round to it". Then I had to change the battery, which lost the radio code and set the alarm - only problem was, the "manual" spare key we were using doesn't clear the alarm, so the car was immobile!
Pop into Fussell Wadman - £180 (phew, it's insured) - 10 - 14 days minimum if we can do it at all! Suggest you pop round to Devizes Reclamation and buy a lock set. There, I was relived of £70 and trotted off home. Opened the Haynes manual at the alarm page....only to find that the button on the dash that I always wondered what it did resets the alarm with the manual key! DOH! Got my money back on the locks thankfuly
Not much racing to write about in this blog, it's been a quiet year. Looking back, I wish I hadn't entered Silverstone. The car was woefully under-prepared and it took my eye of the business ball. I can't be surprised it failed miserably. I'll only go racing next year if I can get things done properly, and maybe that'll mean reducing some business commitment. Moves on that afoot, got a meeting about the SKID CAR today.
Half year results for racewear.co.uk produced today - we're up I'm excited to say.
Pinch and a punch for the first of the month!
That's one nervous part over - updated the laptop to SP3...my tower computer hasn't been the same since it happened, nor has David's. So I was a bit worried but it all seems OK so far.
Going to MG Snetterton this weekend, not driving but "supporting" the others in the Monty Zoomers team - David & Alex in his Midget, Neville & Andrew in Andrew's Midget and Mike & Neil in David's Montego. Should be fun, but forecast isn't good
Planning to take the Pug and sleep in that - surely I'm too old for that? Ah well, at least it's cheap.
Andrew's taking delivery of the first Uvex racesuit I've imported. I'm well impressed....it's 40% lighter than standard and beautifully made. Top job! Steve Coen's taking an fp3 HANS helmet, it's perfect for a quick sports car like his ADR. I think this Uvex racewear is going to be popular
Back to the grindstone!
ooh forgot to say, entry to Club 100 Spa is confirmed
Here we are, another yawny morning and the sun hasn't risen yet. Radio full of dire predictions because the US failed to take on City debt. I wouldn't mind if the guys who lost all the money and brought their banks down were sacked - but no, fat payoffs for them. Perhaps the US will put more stringent terms on the bail-out, but don't hold your breath. Could work as a good model for the world, then all the commentators will show what a paragon of virtue rigorous gvernment is. Some hope.
What will it mean for us at the bottom of the pile? Expect our finance will get more costly, and we'll have to pass that on to our customers - which means you pay more for racewear. Sorry, but there it is.
Humph - still getting junk loan spam, one just popped in now while typing.
To brighter things - I've just bought a straight cut gearbox for the racer! Yeah! Now all I need to do is pay for it. Ah well. Shell needs a bit of work, then it's just engine build time. I'm looking for a big valve racing head as well, let me know if you find one.
Busy day at work today, trying to get a new shopping cart live. Long-winded, boring, then proof-read, proof-read, proof-read. Be good when it's finished though.
Back to the grindstone!
It's too early!Heard from racing colleague David Smith last night, he's just had two good races at the Nurburgring, and has come away with silverware! Makes me redouble my efforts to get mine ready so I can be there next year.
Hit a snag yesterday, it seems the previous owner bodged the chassis repair then hid that wth bodyfiller. No wonder the car's so heavy, I must have been driving like a demon to have been so quick with an overweight car and underpower engine!
Interesting take on car repairs. Inner sill and floor are rusty so you weld huge plates over the floor and inner sill and instead of cutting the rusty metal out you smooth it in with body filler. Hmmm.
Bought mysef an SCCR yesterday - woo-hoo! A good box, ready to go, about half the price others are asking for them.
On a more sobering note, I'm wondering how the so-called credit crunch will affect our business expansion plans. We've got ideas for a new racewear.co.uk web site and have a grant towards the cost, but it may be a poor time to be looking for extra funding. We'll just have to work a bit harder I suppose. That's why I'm at my desk at 0600, so that I can get routine done without disturbing the working day....Still, glad I now own the worst part of Bradford and Bingley, I'm sure that's going to help my business a lot. Wonder if I buy loads of useless racewear stock the government would bail me out? Thought not!
Oh, had a great day on the SKID CAR Saturday. The sun shone which helped the mood, everyone seemed to have a good time and learned a lot. Alex scored a goal on the pitch at QPR and we got the garden cleared. Tom came and collected his shell, means I've only got the race and the road Sprite in the drive now. S's pleased, so are the neighbours, but I need some more stock. If you find any dead Midgets, please let me know.

Going to work today on the SKID CAR, long day but should be fun. We've got an advanced driving group in the morning which is a good chance to open a few eyes, plus people coming for their Christmas present days out in the afternon. Have you seen the video of it here?
Would prefer to be working on the racer on a Saturday, but we need to get the business built up and new instructors on-stream first. It's hard work in these early days of a new business, but really exciting. Sometimes the raw thrill of running a small business goes as it grows into an efficient machine. But I'd gladly lose the getting-up-at-all-hours to get ready.
Also missing Alex's day at QPR. His local Bromham village team has been invited to the match against Derby County, and they're playing on the pitch at half-time! Wow, such a thrill for the lads.
Need to spend tomorrow sorting out my new racewear.co.uk shopping cart. Evolution not revolution.
Internet radio's playing up today, real pain this technology at times.

Went to an interesting e-marketing seminar yesterday, run by the local Business Link. Turns out I went to school with the presenter, he's a couple of years older than me. Always *something* that can be gleaned from these events, I picked up a couple of tips but the guy next to me went with a closed mind. Hmmm, depends how you look at the event I suppose.
Just completed a survey about Paypal on-line, it says I'm going to win £1000. Yeah right, believe that don't we? Still, would pay for the racing engine!
Busy day today, got to get a Midget shell out for a customer - quite a good one, pics on www.midgetmax.com. I'm running a SKID CAR (www.actiondrome.com) session tomorrow, so need to prepare the certificates. Be out all day, bit of a shame on a Saturday but it's more money towards the engine fund. Oh and I need to finish work on the new shopping cart for www.racewear.co.uk - keep your eye on the site, it'll be there soon.
